Prophylaxis
Dental cleanings (prophylaxis) consist in the removal of plaque and calculus and in polishing and removing all stains from the child’s teeth.
Cleanings are performed with the supervision of a Pediatric Dentist depending on each child’s need. By the age of 3, cleanings are included in each check up. They are normally scheduled every 6 months to prevent excessive plaque buildup and take about 30-25 minutes. This will prevent the development of future gum problems. Since every infant, child or teen is assessed individually first by a Pediatric Dentist, children younger than 3 may also present plaque and calculus, and if that is the case, a cleaning will also be performed. Tooth cleaning, polishing and fluoride treatments are all part of your child’s prevention program recommended by any of our Pediatric Dentist.
